Open Payments Coalition Launches Universal Payment ID

Members of the newly-formed Open Payments Coalition, which include GoPay, Ripple, Blockchain.com, BitPay, Brave, Flutterwave, and Mercy Corps, say the newly minted PayID will enable customers to send and receive money across any of their payment networks without the hassle of dealing with credit card or bank routing numbers.

The Open Payments Coalition has said the IDs would be operational across networks and would eschew common staples of payments such as credit cards and bank routing numbers. The coalition has said, too, that it is compliant with Financial Action Task Force mandates known as the “travel rule.”
