A recent hack against Pennsylvania-based convenience store chain Wawa exposed credit and debit card credentials issued by hundreds of local credit unions. Many are leveraging the Automated Cybersecurity Examination Tool, developed by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), to bridge this gap.

When hackers hit Pennsylvania-based fuel and convenience retailer Wawa, they made off with the credentials of potentially thousands of credit union members. That program is detailed in the February Tracker, as are efforts including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). It’s been a jarring wakeup call, but now, CUs are wide awake.
